Ali is currently Head of Expansion Strategy in the Emerging Enterprise department at MFS Africa. MFS Africa is one of the largest digital payment platforms on the continent with the ambition and vision of “making borders matter less” when it comes to digital transactions. The MFS Africa Hub is connected to more than 320 million mobile wallets in about 33 countries with more than 600 corridors. The use cases are diverse, but the goal is the same: making payments as easy as making a phone call.
As part of his role in the Emerging Enterprise department, Ali supervises the roll-out of the MFS Africa’s retail payment platform (Beyonic) to countries across continent.
Ali was previously Country Manager for Touch Group covering Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Egypt. From 2017 to date, Ali had integrated into the Touch Platform partners like Safaricom MPESA in Kenya, Airtel Money and MTN for mobile payments, GTP USA for prepaid cards, WorldRemit and RIA for international remittances, and banks like Equity, Ecobank, UBA for services related to payment and agency banking. Africa has seen a rapid rise of a multitude of mobile money players. Thus, simplifying mobile payments and making them accessible has the potential of driving prosperity for the Fintech industry.
Ali also holds a MA in International Economics and Finance from the Brandeis International Business School and is a Fulbright Scholar
